Binibeca |
Binibeca
has two distinct centres: the Binibeca Vell area and the Binibeca Nou/Cala
Torret/S'Atalaya area. The latter is the chiefly residential area around the sandy beach. In Cala Torret there
is a supermarket and several nice restaurants overlooking the sea. It is
also home to the Paupa diving centre. A kilometre distant is the
"fishing village" of Binibeca Vell with its pretty whitewashed
buildings and pedestrianised streets, where you can find restaurants,
bars and shops and all the other tourist facilities you would expect.
Punta
Prima is a mixed coastal resort-cum-small residential town and has a
wide sandy beach with excellent bathing conditions which is fringed with
bars, restaurants, shops and supermarkets. A popular resort but relaxed
and not over-commercial
S'Algar
is a small but very popular and long established resort on the tip of
Menorca's south-east coast. Although it offers only a small man-made
beach, there are extensive sunbathing and swimming platforms and
terraces along the shoreline, and some great swimming and snorkelling
opportunities from its rocky coast. There are also some of the best and
most spectacular scuba diving sites just off its shore, and S'Algar
Diving offers excellent and highly professional facilities to exploit
this, for beginner and expert alike.

Menorca
has a multitude of restaurants. Many offer standard tourist menus
and most offer a menu del dia (menu of the day) costing 3-10 euros -
excellent value for money. Many new restaurants open each season
offering much more than standard tourist fare. In July and August
advance bookings are advisable in very popular restaurants if you wish
to eat after 8pm.
Local
specialities are calderata de llagosta (lobster stew), paella, fresh
fish and shellfish. Do not miss the locally made mayonnaise, an
invention of Mahon (Mao).
